So now that Adobe has decided to discontinue its use of Version Cue, it’s left a few of us in the dust wonder what possible solution could be out there that can compare with the solutions Version Cue offered? I’ve been scowering the net for the past week reading up on DAM (Digital Asset Management) systems and none are as easy to set-up or intergrate with Adobe programs as well as Version Cue. Keep in mind as you read ahead my opinions are solely based from a designer’s point of view. The reason for this being, there do appear bto be a lot of soltuions out there for web developers that work VERY well.
A few of the popular DAM solutions I came across were Subversion, Git, Razuna, GridIron Flow and others…however, all required a set-up and custommization through code. What ever happened to the GUI? Anyway, these solutions provided the following features which I needed including:
Subversion and GridIron provided the best solutions that were close to what Version Cue provided, but I couldn’t help but feel like it wasn’t enough. The simplicity of clicking save in any Adobe program and have it create a new version couldn’t be simpler. In addition to the easy to use graphical interface for assets provided by Bridge. It makes me wonder how much I’m going to use Bridge going forward knowing that I can’t version control. With it and might be forced to use another application to upload and version assets.
On the positive side, GridIron was pretty good and I’d have to say after some use might just become the next best application for designers to organize, store, and access their work. I highly recommed that people try out this DAM system. It’s quite unique the way it works and displays your information.
Just maybe one day I’ll forgive Adobe for cutting out a great product and not providing suitable and comparable replacements. 🙂 But for now I’ll have to do some more research into the page of Adobe partners that provide DAM systems:
https://www.adobe.com/mena/products/creativesuite/versioncue/find_partners/
Have a look and hopefully they will be able to provide a solution that suits you!
UPDATE – Mar.31, 2011
I’m in the process of evaluating a DAM and version control solution called Evolpin. I’ll post my thoughts on this once I’ve had a chance to review it. In the meantime, what solutions are you using or thinking of moving to?

I know how you feel. We are still looking for suitable replacements for VC and found Gridiron Software and Razuna to be pretty good.
Evolphin is also a good one to check out although it also costs money.
I’ll definitely look into Evolphin. Thanks for the info! I’ve actually tried out Razuna and the only issue I had was that it was difficult to navigate through content quickly – it didn’t provide the same fast experience that you could get with Bridge. Hopefully other solutions will present themselves in the near future.
